That means it can be immersed in roughly three feet of water for 30 minutes.
The adapter will eventually be included with the phone, and existing users can get one for free. HTC's proprietary dongle with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) will be released in December, so if you buy the phone before then, you're limited to listening with the included USB-C earbuds or a Bluetooth pair. And in an even more courageous decision, an adapter for standard headphones is not included, nor can you can't use a third party dongle. In the same display of courage as Apple, LeEco, and Motorola, HTC removed the headphone jack in favor of a digital audio output, in this case, USB-C. You won't notice the difference in your pocket, but its dimensions make it a bit too big for one-handed operation. It also weighs a tiny bit more at 6.1 ounces, compared with the XL's 5.9 ounces or the HTC 10's 5.7 ounces. It measures 6.1 by 3.0 by 0.3 inches (HWD), identical to the Google Pixel XL and a bit bigger than the HTC 10 (5.6 by 2.8 by 0.4 inches). Available in gray or silver, the Bolt feels like a sturdy metal slab. It largely sticks to the same aesthetic as the HTC 10, meaning a metal unibody with a large chamfered edge along the sides. The HTC Bolt's design isn't going to electrify you. If you like the design, you're better off buying the HTC 10, which is more powerful and less restrictive, for $50 more.
That's all good, but the phone comes loaded with bloatware, lacks an audio jack, and the only way to connect a pair of wired third-party headphones is to use a proprietary dongle that isn't yet available. At $599.99, the Bolt looks and handles a lot like the more expensive Google Pixel XL. With a name reminiscent of the company's 2011 Thunderbolt, the Sprint-exclusive Bolt combines the classic metal design of the HTC 10 with a high-resolution display, waterproofing, hi-fi audio, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. In some ways, the HTC Bolt feels like a throwback.
